Chiefly correspondence, accounts, lists, clippings, and other papers relating to Brand's activities as treasurer of the Richmond and Manchester Colonization Society and the Colonization Society of Virginia (formerly a branch of the American Colonization Society) concerning the emigration of freedmen to Liberia (including lists of free Blacks wishing to emigrate from the Virginia counties of Charles City and Sussex, and the city of Richmond), trade with Liberia (especially tobacco and flour), and opinions about the slave trade; and correspondence (including letters from George Mason Cooke [1792-1866] and Dr. Benjamin Coleman as general agents) and accounts concerning the Richmond Mining Company, in particular gold mining operations at Busby's Mine, Goochland County, Va.
